Appren­tice top‑6 in Ted Reese Invitational

The Builder Wrestling team traveled to the University of Southern Maine Saturday to compete in the Ted Reese Invitational, placing 6th out of 16 teams. The young team saw some new variety this weekend, seeing competitors from NCAA div3 and NCWA programs all based in New England. The US Coast Guard Academy (NCAA D3) won the event with 166 team points, followed by host Southern Maine with 159 points. Apprentice edged Trinity College of Connecticut for the top-six finish.

New NCWA Rankings Released!

Central Florida remains atop the NCWA-D1 team rankings (43 pts) with 3 individuals ranked #1 including the top-2 wrestlers at 125. The top-10 for NCWA-D1 are rounded out by Emmanuel and Grand Valley State tied at 2nd (42 pts), Middle Tennessee (4th-39 pts), Liberty (5th-35 pts), Apprentice (6th-32 pts), Toledo (7th-27 pts), Springfield Tech (8th-24 pts), Queens of Charlotte (9th-23 pts), and BYU (10th-22 pts).


MIT Wrestler Earns Rhodes Scholarship

Matthew Chun, from Arlington, Virginia, is an MIT senior majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in management science. As a Rhodes Scholar, Chun seeks to further his knowledge of policy and law, with the goal of advising organizations that bring life-improving technologies to countries around the world. At Oxford, he will pursue a second BA in jurisprudence before returning to the U.S. to enroll in law school with a focus on intellectual property.

Four members of the UCF wrestling squad placed in the tough UNC-Pembroke Braves Classic on Sunday November 12 featuring some of the top programs in the southeast portion of the United States ranging from NJCAA to NCAA-D1. CSU Wrestling Shows Growth in First Week of Competition

The Colorado State wrestling team kicked off their season last Thursday with a dual against former NCWA team Air Force Prep Academy before hosting their annual CSU Invitational on Saturday.

Things did not go the way the Rams planned Thursday night, falling to Air Force Prep 20-25. Whether it was due to lack of college experience for the young team or first match jitters, the Rams came out flat. CSU only won one match outside of open spots, and several of the Rams were pinned in the first or second periods of their matches.

The University of Houston - Downtown wrestling team hosted the second annual Circle of Champions Youth Tournament on October 14th at Spring-Klein Wrestling Club. NCWA-D1 #1 ranked Central Florida looks tough leading into the 2017-18 season with several returning All-Americans including three #1 ranked wrestlers at 125, 133, and 285. 2018 NCWA Nation­al Duals Applications Now Open

The 2018 NCWA National Duals will be held at Liberty University on January 26-27, 2018.

SELECTION: All NCWA programs in good standing are eligible to apply to the National Duals Selection Committee (NDSC) for inclusion in the 2018 NCWA National Duals. All interested teams shall submit the signed contract to the Executive Board by December 1, 2017 in order to be placed in the applicant field.

Two Time NCWA Nation­al Cham­pi­on Captures UFC Title

Grand Valley Alumnus and 3x NCWA All-American Tony Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee Saturday evening in Las Vegas for the UFC Lightweight interim Title. Lee came out strong near the end of round one only to be submitted by Ferguson in the third. Both GVSU former athletes showed poise and skill as they sized each other up and challenged each other throughout the first two rounds. Ferguson (24-3 MMA, 14-1 UFC) stuck Lee (16-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) with a third-round triangle choke to become the UFC’s interim lightweight champion. The tap-out came at 4:02 in the third round. Tony now puts himself in line for a possible title unification fight against champ Conor McGregor.

Cal Poly Enters The NCWA Arena

California Polytechnic State University will field a solid NCWA team this season. The new program for the mustangs was officially recognized by the university this September and plans to field a full squad for their first season in the NCWA. Club President Michael Klee has connected with both the CalPoly Athletic Director and the NCAA DI wrestling coach Jon Sioredas to secure support for the growing club team. Klee also plans to launch a women's team this year as well with 6 to 8 interested women athletes waiting in the wings to represent the lady mustangs.

NCWA Wrestlers Face Off for The UFC Lightweight Title

Grand Valley State alumni Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee lock horns this weekend in Las Vegas for UFC 126. Ferguson an NCWA 2x National Champion and Kevin Lee an NCWA National Qualifier enter the Octagon as the best ever NCWA Wrestlers turned MMA Icons. Both athletes were solid performers for Grand Valley before they choose a career as MMA Athletes. Tony known to UFC fans as "El' Cucuy" is favored to win the bout against Kevin "Motown Phenom" Lee. The bout will be carried on Pay-Per-View Saturday night at 8:00pm central time. Don't miss all the action as you cheer on these two GVSU Champions.

Kent State Tuscarawas Joins NCWA

Kent State Tuscarawas will field a wrestling team for the first time in school history. The campus is a member of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), which will give the Golden Eagles the opportunity to wrestle for individual and team National Championships as well as vie for athletic All-American awards and National All-Academic awards.
