Colorado State to Host National Qualifier

The Colorado State wrestling team will host the Great Plains Conference championships next week with the hopes of bringing home a team championship while qualifying as many wrestlers as possible to next month’s national tournament.

The 2017 NCWA Western Regional Dual Championships featured 16 teams competing for the championship title and national points at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah.

Number one seed Grays Harbor and number two seed Brigham Young University battled-it-out in an early evening championship match that featured standouts on both benches. GH Freshman David Curulla gave his team an early advantage with a first-round pin of BYU's Weston Larson in the 125 pound weight class. With his team trailing 15-2, BYU Freshman Bailey Carlson secured a technical fall over Grays Harbor.

Emmanuel College Takes First National Duals Title

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Emmanuel College parlayed a quick lead into winning five of the first six matches, and the Lions rolled on to a 33-13 win over Liberty in the championship match of the NCWA National Duals. Emmanuel College won the overall NCWA Championship (the Collegiate Cup) last season after a 5th place finish in the 2016 National Duals. Here are summaries of the NCWA National Duals quarterfinal matches: (1) Emmanuel 43, (9) Alfred State 10 Top-seeded Emmanuel College earned two pins, a forfeit and a major decision among the first five matches to race to a 25-0 lead and cruised to a 43-10 win over ninth-seeded Alfred State. NCWA Rankings - 01.23.17

There were a few big changes in this month's rankings due to transfers and injuries.  Expect even more big changes in the next rankings as the nation's best fight it out at the National Duals at Liberty University (Virginia) and the Western Regional Duals at Dixie State University (Utah) on January 27-28, 2017.

Seniors go 2-0 in Final Home Matches

The University of Akron hosted the NCWA Ohio Duals this past Saturday, January 27th against University of Toledo and Ohio State University WC. For seniors Shane Brown (Captain, 174) and Isaac Hammonds (Assistant Captain, 149), it was their final appearance in their home gym, and both went 2-0 on the day to lead the team to a 38-14 win over Toledo and a 46-12 win over Ohio State.
