The CSU wrestling team qualified seven wrestlers for the National Collegiate Wrestling Association national tournament. Colorado State came in fourth place at the Great Plains Conference Championships out of eight teams. The Rams finished behind Iowa State, Air Force Prep and Wayne State.
Fielding the largest team in the NCWA Northwest, Grays Harbor College used its strength at the top of the brackets and depth throughout the entire field to showcase itself at Sam Benn Gym on Saturday.

There was considerable movement in the NCWA Individual Rankings due to head-to-head results at both the National Duals and Western Regional Duals that saw a total of 36 NCWA squads compete from January 27-28, 2017.
The MIT wrestling team hosted the first annual Andrew Esquivel Duals in memory of Andrew Esquivel at MIT on Saturday, February 11th. Attending the duals were the University of Massachusetts, the University of New Hampshire and Yale University. MIT won both matches on the day defeating Yale 31 to 24 and
Despite having only a small squad in attendance, UCSB put in a respectable showing at the NCWA California Championships, held at Fresno State University on February 11, 2017.
The 2017 NCWA Western Regional Dual Championships featured 16 teams competing for the championship title and national points at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah.
Number one seed Grays Harbor and number two seed Brigham Young University battled-it-out in an early evening championship match that featured standouts on both benches. GH Freshman David Curulla gave his team an early advantage with a first-round pin of BYU's Weston Larson in the 125 pound weight class. With his team trailing 15-2, BYU Freshman Bailey Carlson secured a technical fall over Grays Harbor.
UCSB attended its first Western Regional Duals on Jan. 28 at Dixie State University, St. George, UT.
Three hundred and eleven NCWA wrestlers will descend on Lynchburg, VA beginning this Thursday to compete in the 2017 NCWA National Duals hosted by Liberty University.

There were a few big changes in this month's rankings due to transfers and injuries. Expect even more big changes in the next rankings as the nation's best fight it out at the National Duals at Liberty University (Virginia) and the Western Regional Duals at Dixie State University (Utah) on January 27-28, 2017.
The University of Akron hosted the NCWA Ohio Duals this past Saturday, January 27th against University of Toledo and Ohio State University WC. For seniors Shane Brown (Captain, 174) and Isaac Hammonds (Assistant Captain, 149), it was their final appearance in their home gym, and both went 2-0 on the day to lead the team to a 38-14 win over Toledo and a 46-12 win over Ohio State.

For 44 years, Apprentice School coach Bruce Shumaker has made an indelible mark on local wrestling, first as a head coach at Denbigh in 1973-74, and later through a career path that wound through stops at Natural Bridge, Mathews and Lafayette high schools, with a year squeezed in at VMI, before settling in Newport News with his current position in 2007. Even if you asked the most knowledgeable wrestling fans, how many collegiate teams there are in Iowa, most would tell you twenty-five. The five NJCAA programs, the seven NAIA programs, the nine NCAA Division III programs, the one NCAA Division II program and the three NCAA Division I programs. Truth is there are actually 27 collegiate wrestling programs in the state of Iowa. Both the University of Iowa and Iowa State University have club teams that participate in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA).
