MIT Places 5th at NEC
The MIT wrestling team traveled to the University of New Hampshire for the Northeast Conference Championships which is the NCWA national qualifier. Five wrestlers qualified for the national tournament. MIT had three wrestlers in the finals. Junior, Matt Chun, placed 2nd at 125 pounds. Freshman, Ryan Shubert, was seeded sixth. He defeated the number two and number seven seed to make it to the finals and lost to the number one seed at 165 pounds. Senior, Joe Lowman placed second at 197 pounds. Senior, Jose Velarde bounced back from a first round loss and finished fifth at 141 pounds. Sophomore, Frank Soucy, finished in seventh place at 174 pounds and was awarded a wild card to nationals. Sophomore Jonathan Brown finished in seventh place at 197 pounds. Junior, Raoul Khouri also finished in seventh place at 235 pounds. The results will be posted on the NCWA.net website shortly.
The team is now preparing for the NCWA national tournament in Allen, Texas which begins on Thursday, March 9th and finishes on Saturday, March 11th. The team will travel to Allen on Wednesday, March 10th. If you're in the area please come by the Allen Event Center and cheer on the team. The National tournament will be broadcast live on FloArena (www.flowrestling.org) in its entirety.
