The Colorado State wrestling team kicked off their season last Thursday with a dual against former NCWA team Air Force Prep Academy before hosting their annual CSU Invitational on Saturday.

The University of Houston - Downtown wrestling team hosted the second annual Circle of Champions Youth Tournament on October 14th at Spring-Klein Wrestling Club. Over 100 Houston-area youth wrestlers competed in the pre-season event. It is exciting to bear witness to the tremendous growth both in the numbers and competitiveness of the wrestlers that attend this tournament. Surely, some aspiring future Gator wrestlers participated.
NCWA-D1 #1 ranked Central Florida looks tough leading into the 2017-18 season with several returning All-Americans including three #1 ranked wrestlers at 125, 133, and 285. They will get a tough challenge in the first weekend as they visit #2 MTSU for the Blue Raider Invite in Murfreesboro, TN. SELECTION: All NCWA programs in good standing are eligible to apply to the National Duals Selection Committee (NDSC) for inclusion in the 2018 NCWA National Duals. All interested teams shall submit the signed contract to the Executive Board by December 1, 2017 in order to be placed in the applicant field.
Grand Valley Alumnus and 3x NCWA All-American Tony Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee Saturday evening in Las Vegas for the UFC Lightweight interim Title. Lee came out strong near the end of round one only to be submitted by Ferguson in the third. Both GVSU former athletes showed poise and skill as they sized each other up and challenged each other throughout the first two rounds. Ferguson (24-3 MMA, 14-1 UFC) stuck Lee (16-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) with a third-round triangle choke to become the UFC’s interim lightweight champion. The tap-out came at 4:02 in the third round. Tony now puts himself in line for a possible title unification fight against champ Conor McGregor.
California Polytechnic State University will field a solid NCWA team this season. The new program for the mustangs was officially recognized by the university this September and plans to field a full squad for their first season in the NCWA. Club President Michael Klee has connected with both the CalPoly Athletic Director and the NCAA DI wrestling coach Jon Sioredas to secure support for the growing club team. Klee also plans to launch a women's team this year as well with 6 to 8 interested women athletes waiting in the wings to represent the lady mustangs.
Grand Valley State alumni Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee lock horns this weekend in Las Vegas for UFC 126. Ferguson an NCWA 2x National Champion and Kevin Lee an NCWA National Qualifier enter the Octagon as the best ever NCWA Wrestlers turned MMA Icons. Both athletes were solid performers for Grand Valley before they choose a career as MMA Athletes. Tony known to UFC fans as "El' Cucuy" is favored to win the bout against Kevin "Motown Phenom" Lee. Kent State Tuscarawas will field a wrestling team for the first time in school history. The campus is a member of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), which will give the Golden Eagles the opportunity to wrestle for individual and team National Championships as well as vie for athletic All-American awards and National All-Academic awards.
The University of Louisville announced the founding of their first ever college wrestling program this September. The new team coached by NAIA National Qualifier Mike Clark will hit the mats this fall with a full roster that will include Southern High Schools' Kentucky State Champion Thomas Noe and All-State wrestler Alex Olvera of Pleasure Ridge Park. Coach Clark said he was excited for the new opportunity given him by Louisville and anticipates a great first season. “We are in our first year with a young program and our guys will need to gain valuable college experience before we can make any grand claims, but we expect to make our presence known in the Mid-Atlantic conference this year”. Coach Clark hopes to qualify 3 or 4 athletes to the National Championships in Texas and believes that Noe has a shot at an All-American spot.
The Apprentice School's Director of Athletics, Michael W. Allen, has named Micah Amrozowicz Head Wrestling coach.
"Micah was a no-brainer. He is a former apprentice, he has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working and navigating down in the yard, and being a former wrestler and assistant coach, he bleeds Builder wrestling. I am excited to see how the next chapter unfolds under Coach Amrozowicz's leadership," states Allen.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The NCWA welcomed 25 coaches and staff members to the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort for its annual Vision Forum conference. The NCWA representatives discussed multiple segments of the upcoming season and future seasons over three days of meetings and legislation.
DALLAS -- Paced by national champion Cassidy Collins and five runners-up, North Texas out-manned the field to claim the inaugural Greco-Roman College National Championships. The Eagles scored 55 points and placed at least one All-American in each of the eight weight classes.
The NCWA launches the inaugural Greco-Roman College Nationals on June 3 in Dallas, Texas. The Richland College Thunderducks will host this year's championships. This will be the first time in history that the Greco-Roman style of wrestling will be contested between colleges for a National Championship Title and individual All-American honors. Just like the collegiate styles practiced by the NCAA, athletes must be attending college, taking credit hours in a matriculating program and carrying a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. This season will have limited participation with only 16 athletes per weight qualifying for the event. Colleges from across Texas converged on Richland College Saturday for the Texas GoGreco Championships
The University of North Texas came away with the team honors placing seven in the finals and winning six of those spots to best host Richland College.
Andrew Willi of The University of Houston-Downtown took the Gold at 130 lbs to give UHD a third place finish.
Senior Mike Brungardt came a long way throughout his three-year Colorado State wrestling career to say the least.
At one point, Brungardt could not even make it through wrestling tryouts. However, as his final season concluded, he was the club president with three National Tournament appearances under his belt.
The NCWA Announced today the future dates of the National Collegiate Wrestling Championships.
The NCWA Championships are contingent on the NCAA DI dates and have always proceed the DI’s by one week.
