OUAZ's Women's Wrestling was up to the challenge claiming the National Title with victories over major contenders The Apprentice School from Norfolk, Va and Grand Canyon University from Arizona.
One of the highlights of the day came in the second match against Grand Canyon. Jasmin Soc-Lopez (OUAZ) faced off again Daniella Suttles (GCU). In their previous two meetings, Suttle has come out on top. This time it was all Soc-Lopez. She scored the first takedown and went on to secure the pin in the first period.
Another highlight was a match between OUAZ's Iyanla Thomas and Erin Aragon (The AS). Aragon was the National Runner-up two years ago. Thomas was able to overcome a strong start by Aragon to get the pin in the third period.
Lynchburg Va: Liberty University’s top-ranked men’s wrestling team captured its record fourth consecutive NCWA National Duals championship and sixth in its 11 seasons in the league with overpowering showings both Friday and Saturday at the LaHaye Ice Center (LIC).
“We had a dominating performance,” said Flames 197-pound senior Josiah Murphy, who was one of seven Liberty wrestlers (out of 11 weight classes) to finish 4-0 individually.
The others were 133-pound graduate Logan Robertson, 141-pound sophomore Garrett Good, 149-pound junior Brandon Ahlemann — the only one to win all four by fall — 165-pound junior David Over, 235-pound senior Jeff Allen, and junior heavyweight Rick Weaver, who racked up three pins and a technical fall.
Lynchburg, VA - The men's wrestling squad completed the National Duals as the runner-up again, falling to defending champions Liberty University. The Builders advanced to the finals after a forfeit from Grays Harbor Saturday morning.
Lynchburg, VA - The Chokers traveled east to participate in the NCWA National Duals and came away with a 1-1 record. The team took on the University of Central Florida in round one and dominated with a 53-6 victory. The Chokers then matched up with the returning national champions and current number one team Liberty University. The dual didn't go well for the Chokers and were defeated 50-12.
The first NCWA Individual and Team Rankings are finally out! It's probably no surprise that the team title in the Men's Division looks like a 2-team race between Liberty and Apprentice while the Women's Division is up for grabs between 4 teams.
Despite the year off for Covid, the men's division still has 3 returning champions and an additional 3 national finalists amongst the returning 27 All-Americans. Many individuals will look for redemption as they were pulled out of title contention in the Spring of 2020 during the national tournament. The women's division has only 10 returning All-Americans including 6 previous national finalists.

Wrestling five duals in one day only made Liberty University’s men’s wrestling team stronger by the match, Saturday at the Carolina Clash, hosted by Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.
The Flames, who will host the NCWA National Duals on Jan. 21-22 in search of their sixth title, finished 5-0 in their only dual meet competition of the fall semester, winning all of their matches decisively against an NCAA Division II field of teams.
Liberty brought 20 wrestlers to Saturday’s duals tournament, enough for two in each of the 10 weight classes. The Flames dominated Allen (S.C.) University, 36-15, Mt. Olive (N.C.) University, 33-10, Bluefield (Va.) State, 41-7, Emmanuel (Ga.) College, 33-5, and host Lander’s B team, 36-12.
Before working out with the wrestling team last week, Erin Aragon sat down and told a childhood story that was difficult to believe.
She was maybe 10 or 11 years when she forced herself to order a meal in a restaurant — out loud, by herself — for the very first time. “I cried when I did it,” she said. “It was really, really bad.”

Liberty University’s men’s wrestling team opened its 2021-22 season in fantastic fashion by earning two individual titles, posting one second-place and two third-place showings, and finishing fourth out of 10 teams overall at Saturday’s Messiah Invitational in Grantham, Pa.
“It was a great starting point for the Flames’ wrestling team,” Liberty Head Coach Jesse Castro said. “We got some
