| Kent State Tuscarawas

Kent State Tuscarawas will field a wrestling team for the first time in school history. The campus is a member of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), which will give the Golden Eagles the opportunity to wrestle for individual and team National Championships as well as vie for athletic All-American awards and National All-Academic awards.

Coach Dave Schlarb was hired as Kent State Tuscarawas' wrestling coach in March 2017. Schlarb, a West Virginia native, recently completed his high school wrestling coaching at New Philadelphia High School where he served as varsity coach for 10 years and assistant coach for 13 years prior.

Throughout his wrestling career, Schlarb won multi-year county, state and Junior Olympic Championships and was a four-time West Virginia State High School Wrestling Champion and earned a four-year starting position while subsequently becoming a four-year letter winner for West Virginia University. After completing his collegiate career with the Mountaineers, Schlarb was an AAU Freestyle National Champion, as well as going undefeated as a Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestler in Europe with a 10-0 record.

Golden Eagles Athletic Director Rob Brindley was excited about the addition of Schlarb to the Kent State Tuscarawas program. "Dave is a wonderful fit for our program. His knowledge and experience in wrestling, combined with his extensive coaching relationships will help us build a championship program," said Brindley.

Schlarb began his wrestling career at the age of five and is still active on the mat today. He has served as a wrestling camp clinician for multiple years and organized the first youth team in Tuscarawas County that competed in the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association district and state championships.
