This October, University of Texas Senior and 2x NCWA All American Wrestler, Antonio Martinez won Gold at the 21st annual Copa Sparta wrestling tournament held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This Freestyle tournament is an international event with teams from Canada, the USA and Puerto Rico. Antonio competed in the Men's Open division at 70 Kilos (154 lbs). In the semifinal, Antonio defeated PUR National team member, Benjamin Cotto, 9 to 8 in come back fashion, with a takedown in the last minute of the match. In the final, to win Gold, Antonio defeated his Canadian opponent, Dajindes Singn. Martinez, took an early lead with a 4 point throw, and never looked back, taking the gold by a 14 to 8 margin. This is Antonio's 6 year participating in this tournament, placing every year (3 Gold, 2 Silver, One Bronze).
