Brackets Released for 2015 Championships
The 2015 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships return to the Allen Event Center outside Dallas next week with the largest field in its history. The championship brackets for the 18th annual national tournament represent 86 teams and close to 500 wrestlers hailing from 31 states.
Based on the conference qualifying results, the Liberty Flames have the upper hand heading into the tournament with a team-high 18 entries in the 11 weight classes. Each team is allowed two entries per weight. Grand Valley State is just behind with 16, and Central Florida will bring 15 wrestlers into the field, followed by Apprentice (13), Middle Tennessee and Penn State-DuBois (12 each), and Maine, Marion Military, Montana Western, Washington State and Wayne State with 11 each.
Advance six-session tournament tickets are available at www.ncwanationals.org. Tickets will also be available at the venue for each individual session.
One of the highlights of each NCWA season is the post-tournament All-American Banquet. Only a limited number of tickets remain for this year’s banquet, which follows soon after the tournament finals Saturday night. Discount tickets purchased through www.ncwanationals.org before Sunday, March 8, are \$30 each. Tickets for the athletes are free. If any tickets remain while the tournament is in session, they will be available Thursday, March 12 only for \$40 sold at the venue.
For a third consecutive season, the NCWA will host a “Recruit Me” Wrestling Combine on the evening prior to the tournament. From 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, high school seniors and juniors are invited to the Allen Event Center to meet the NCWA’s coaches and top athletes in an informal setting. The first 100 athletes at the door will be admitted. Register in advance through the links at www.ncwanationals.org. Registration is \$15. Each registered attendee will receive a free NCWA compression workout shirt and a free ticket to the Championship Finals on Saturday night.
High school wrestlers are asked to bring their own wrestling shoes and shorts or singlet, as they’ll be coached through situational wrestling episodes in order to show their best moves to the college coaches looking on. Parents are encouraged to attend as well and ask NCWA coaches questions regarding their schools’ academics, scholarship opportunities (many of the NCWA schools offer scholarships within their programs), alternative tuition funding and much more. Parents are admitted free with their student-athletes.
