New Chapter for North Texas Wrestling
North Texas Wrestling will be teaming up with the Frisco Bombers on July 21st through July 25th to host a youth wrestling camp at Liberty High School. According to the North Texas Wrestling President, Taylor Swanson, the decision to help with the Frisco Bombers wrestling camp was newly introduced coach, Andre Metzger’s idea. Andre Metzger had much to say about the opportunity this presented for the North Texas Wrestling, he went on to say that this marked the start of the first competitive season for North Texas Wrestling, so extra preparation is necessary.
North Texas Wrestling has been a club for close to three years according to President Taylor Swanson. “We have done all the necessary paper work and passed the requirements to compete next semester, and this is the opportunity we have been waiting on to get our name on the map”, Taylor said. These are the words of a die-hard wrestler from Houston, Texas who feels like his high school years were taken away from him because of an ACL injury. This is the first chance that himself along with many of the other wresters in the North Texas Wrestling club will be able to compete after high school. “I jumped at the opportunity to help the surrounding community with their wrestling dreams. Being that I am living in Fort Worth, the UNT wrestling coaching vacancy seemed perfect for me. I will give all the knowledge and motivation I have to help these wrestlers become champions. They have already done the work they just need the guidance.” These are the words of two-time NCAA champion, Olympic wrestler, and North Texas Wrestling coach Andre Metzger. He feels like he can use his connections with the Frisco bombers to help recruit for the North Texas Wrestling team, and it also gives him a chance to see how the wrestlers on the team wrestle.
The camp will be hosted by Liberty high school by way of the Frisco Bombers. The Frisco bombers are the premier youth wrestling club in the North Texas area. The camp will feature coaches Rick Dellagatta and Andre Metzger, along with 2014 Olympic Wrestling team coach James Johnson. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for wrestlers ages 7-18. “This will be a great experience for both parties and I’m glad that North Texas Wrestling will be available to help work techniques and help drill. You always need more practice and different looks from different training partners and that is what North Texas wrestlers will provide for us”, Rick Dellagata said.
