SCRANTON, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling team competed at the Electric City Duals hosted by the University of Scranton Saturday. The Wildcats had some strong bouts but were unable to string the wins together going 0-4 on the day. The Apprentice School won the event going 6-0 with Wilkes University the runner-up at 4-1.
In pool play, the Wildcats wrestled Scranton, Apprentice and Wilkes. Against Scranton, freshman Dalton Deimler (Middletown) pinned Thomas Porres in 1:50 at 125 to open the match. Down 12-6, freshman Troy Leid (Terre Hill) major decisioned Rob Leavy at 157 11-2 to bring it to within two. Freshman Taylor Porter (Milton) major decisioned against Joe Riccardi 15-5 to bring his team to within one, but the Wildcats were swept in the finals bout to go down 28-14.
Against perennial powerhouse Apprentice, Penn College won four bouts. Freshman Randall Janowitz (Westminster, Md.) decisioned Dwayne Roes 9-2 at 141 followed by junior Kyle Sunseri (Athens) at 149 with an 8-3 decision over Cruz Garcia. Lead then edged out Brian Beatson 5-4 at 157 making it a 12-9 match. Sophomore Daniel Frankenfield (Dushore) decisioned Garrett Williams 9-7 at 184 to round out the winners. Apprentice recorded four pins in the match to help seal the 36-12 victory.
Against Wilkes, Deimler recorded one of the highest scores for the Wildcats with a 19-13 decision over Edwin Fiscal at 133. Janowitz then decisioned Jake Dimarsico 4-2 at 141 to put his team up 6-3. Wilkes then went on to win the next five bouts building a 24-6 lead. Freshman Patrick Fitzgerald (Port Royal) finished the bout winning by forfeit at 285 ending the match with a 24-12 score.
The Wildcats then wrestled UMBC losing 43-11.
Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State DuBois for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
