MIT Sam Shames Wins Roger Williams Tourney
The MIT wrestling team competed at the Roger Williams Tournament this weekend finishing in 12th place. Defending National Champion, Sam Shames won the 133 pound weight class in dominant fashion going 4 and 0 on the day. Sam had a pin and 2 major decisions on his way to winning the weight class, including a 16-2 win in the finals. Senior, Jaes Jones finished the day with 4 wins, which included a pin and a major decision, and 2 losses. Jaes wrestled extremely well for his first competition in 11 months. Sophomore, Lawrence Chan went 1 and 2 on the day. Senior, Tyler Laprade and newcomers, Andrew Esquivel and Jose Velarde wrestled very well and finished 0 and 2 on the day. The MIT wrestling team will be traveling to Springfield College next Saturday to compete in the Doug Parker Tournament. Wrestling starts at 10 a.m.
