National Wrestling Day — November 3rd
After launching National Wrestling Day last December 5th to bring awareness to when “The Wrestling Season” begins, the Pennsylvania Wrestling Newsmagazine and its founder, Joe Baranik, have joined in with the Greater Washington Wrestling Business Network and the DC Athletic Club to present ‘NATIONAL WRESTLING DAY’ on November 3, 2012. The Nov. 3rd date was chosen to highlight the NWCA All-Star meet to take place at American University in our nation’s Capitol. George Mason University and the U. of Maryland will also be assisting with the NWCA All-Star meet.
The key bout of the night will pit 3x NCAA Champion Kyle Dake of Cornell against 2x finalist and national champion David Taylor of Penn State at 165 lbs. Dake is attempting to become the first 4x NCAA wrestling champion who did not red-shirt.
This will be an All-Star meet like no other as wrestlers from the NAIA, Div. 3, Div. 2, and the NCWA will have wrestlers competing. The wrestlers will be wearing camouflage singlets as opposed to school uniforms to honor our military. Also, there will be an autograph session with Olympic medalists and NCAA champions and “Wondrous Wade Schalles” will be one of the former wrestling greats to put on clinic prior to the meet.
Our hope is to have the whole “Wrestling Nation” pull together and celebrate the start of the 2012-13 wrestling season. The day will include clinics and tournaments across the country, culminating with the NWCA All-Star meet at 7:30 pm.
