Jorgensen signing to wrestle at Cal Baptist
Chico High senior wrestler Mark Jorgensen will sign a national letter of intent today for a 50-percent wrestling scholarship at California Baptist University in Riverside.
Jorgensen, a Northern Section Masters champion who placed eighth this year at the CIF state championships at 182 pounds, is expected to wrestle at 197 next season for the Lancers, an NCWA program right now in transition to NCAA Division II status for the 2013-14 season.
Jorgensen wrestled his senior year with a late-season knee injury, a tear in his medial collateral ligament, which caused him to forgo the Eastern Athletic League North meet. He made the finals at the section Division I meet but the injury forced him to default in the finals for a second-place finish.
He went on to win the section title and took a 37-8 record into the state meet, where he went 3-2.
