Baus­man Leads Eight Placewinners

DICKINSON, N.D. – Minot State University freshman wrestler Marcus Bausman (Minot, N.D.) continued to impress early on as he finished second overall at 157 pounds at the Dickinson State Open Saturday.
Bausman, who has won two tournaments all ready this season, went 3-1 overall with a pin, a tech fall and a major to his credit. He was defeated in the championship match by DSU's Byron Ryland.
“It was another pretty good day for us,” said MSU head coach Robin Ersland said. “Marcus was solid all day and we had a number of wrestlers who had a decent day.”
He wasn't the only successful MSU wrestler as the Beavers finished with seven other placewinners.
MSU had three weights where the Beavers placed more than one wrestler as Kirby Kain (Fr., Williston, N.D.), Brandon Gifford (Fr., Hardin, Mont.) and Deon Buhl (Sr., Lacey, Wash.) went 3-4-5 at 141 Kain was 2-1, Gifford 1-2 and Buhl 2-2 with a pin. Drew Spaulding (Fr., Bismarck, N.D.) joined Bausman at 157, taking third overall with a 3-1 record. Luke Micahelson (So., Williston, N.D.) was fifth at 184 with a tech fall and a 2-2 record; and Cody George (Jr., Clancy, Mont.) was sixth at 184 with a pin and a 1-2 record.
James Stanley (Fr., Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) rounded out the placewinners for MSU as he was fourth at 165, earning a pin while going 2-2 on the day.
The Beavers have a big week ahead of themselves as MSU plays host to Dickinson State in a nonconference dual against the rival Blue Hawks on Thursday (7 p.m.) before hosting the 2012 Minot State Open Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
