Southern Illinois Edwardsville Announces Schedule

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Head Coach David Ray said he has the best wrestling schedule he's had since coming to SIUE.
Ray announced the 2011-12 schedule Monday that includes six home dates. SIUE has Truman and Purdue at the Vadalabene Center Dec. 18. SIUE faces Central Missouri in a Jan. 12 dual match. The Cougars host a quadrangular meet Jan. 29 with Truman, Missouri, and Eastern Michigan. SIUE faces off against Indiana and South Dakota State Feb. 3. The regular season closes out Feb. 19 with a dual meet against Buffalo.
"I wish I could have a home schedule like this every year," said Ray.
The postseason includes the National Collegiate Wrestling Association's (NCWA) North Central Conference Championships at the Vadalabene Center Feb. 25. The NCWA's national championship meet is scheduled for Mar. 8-10 at a site to be determined.
Named a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon) this summer, the Cougars will not compete in SoCon Championships, however, until next season. Until then, Ray said the Cougars will meet Campbell twice and Gardner-Webb once this season. SIUE will have a full SoCon schedule during the 2012-13 season.
Ray said he is excited to announce that the Cougars will be competing against four Big Ten (Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, and Indiana), three Mid-American Conference (Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Buffalo), and one Big 12 team (Missouri).
"Having top 20 teams on the schedule helps us realize where we are at from year to year, where we are progressing, and where we need to go," Ray said.
The season opens Nov. 2 with the Red and Black Intrasquad meet schedule for 7 p.m.
