Jacksonville, Florida - The MMI wrestlers competed in the NCWA Southeastern Conference Tournament this past weekend and were narrowly defeated by the University of Central Florida with just four points separating the two schools. Mercer University finished third with the University of Florida taking fourth and the University of Georgia taking fifth place. Trevor Bailey (149-lb.) and Josh McCoy (157-lb.) both finished as SEC Champions. In the 125-lb. weight class Cullen Martinez finished 3rd and Jordan Goodwin finished 6th for Marion. Xenepher Austin and Austin Souders finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 133-lb. weight class while teammate Brandon Westerman captured 2nd place in the 141-lb. weight class. Michael Giorgio finished in 4th place in the 141-lb. class. Other Marion wrestlers who placed at the tournament were: Steven Sattler (2nd place; 157-lb.), Marvin Lawrence, Jr. (2nd place; 165-lb.), Jayce Crowder (3rd place; 165-lb.), Kevin Koch (7th place; 174-lb.), Khalid Van McGee (7th place; 184-lb.), Joel Wyman (4th place; 197-lb.), Mark Howard (3rd place; 235-lb.), Michael Mullen (2nd place; 285-lb.).
MMI will travel to Mercer University in Macon, Georgia for the NCWA National Tournament which begins on Thursday, March 10th and concludes on Saturday, March 12th. The matches will be broadcast from the NCWA website: www.ncwa.net.
