Marion Wrestlers Finish in 5th Place at NCWA National Duals!
The MMI wrestlers finished 5th at the NCWA National Duals Tournament behind California Baptist University (student population 4,700), University of Central Florida (student population 56, 235), Grand Valley State University (student population 24, 541), and The Apprentice School (student population 750). Marion, the only two-year college invited, lost their first match to the United States Naval Academy Prep School 19 to 26. They rebounded against Mercer University, winning 35 to 18. Their third match put them against the eventual winner and NCAA II school California Baptist University. The tigers were defeated 12 to 34 but the team can boast that they earned more team points than any other school that faced them during the tournament. MMI won its next two matches, defeating University of Maryland-Baltimore County 33 to 16 and West Chester University 27 to 26. Top individual performers for Marion were: Trevor Bailey (149-lb.), Michael Giorgio (141 - lb.), Mark Howard (197-lb.), Josh McCoy (157-lb.), and Marvin Lawrence (165-lb.).
