Mar­i­on Mil­i­tary — West­er­man Takes National Title

Macon, GA. - Sophomore Brandon Westerman, a native of Powdersprings, Georgia, won the National Collegiate Wrestling Association's (NCWA) 141-lb. weight class this past weekend at the NCWA National Tournament and is now a two-time NCWA All-American. Westerman defeated Kendall Albert from Kennesaw State University 4 to 1 in the finals match. Brandon was a National Tournament runner-up last year in the same weight class.
Seventy-seven schools competed in the NCWA National Tournament, held on the campus of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. The MMI Tigers finished 5th in the National Tournament with 94.5 points and had seven wrestlers earn NCWA All-American honors. California-Baptist finished first with Grand Valley State University taking second place. University of Central Florida and Edwardsville finished third and fourth, respectively.
Besides Westerman, the NCWA All-Americans for Marion are: Xenepher Austin (5th place in 133-lb; Ferguson, MO.), Michael Giorgio (5th place in 141-lb.; Leesport, PA.), Trevor Bailey (4th place in 149-lb.; Covington, GA.), Josh McCoy (5th place in 157-lb,; Warrior, AL.), Marvin lawrence, Jr. (7th place in 165-lb.; Columbus, GA.), and Mark Howard (8th place in 235-lb.; Midlothian, VA.).
