California Baptist University Wins the 2011 West Coast Conference; Eight Champs
SAN JOSE, Calif. --- Top-ranked California Baptist University won eight of 11 weight classes Saturday at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) West Coast Conference Championships hosted by San Jose State University.
Jimmy Martinez (125), Ethan Hall (141), Chris Santana (157), Bronson Gerl (165), Kenneth Tribble (174), C.J. Knowland (184), Caleb Gerl (197) and Alex Evers (285) each won their respective weight classes. Tribble, who was ranked fourth in his weight class, beat both the No. 1-seed and defending conference champion as well as the No. 3 seed.
In addition to the eight champions, the Lancers also qualified four others, who finished second, for the NCWA National Championships, giving them a maximum squad of 12 grapples for the championships.
Dylan Cataline (149), Kyle Matthews (184), Bryce Wilson (197) and Vince Pezzuto (235) all finished second to qualify for the national championships.
The 2010-11 NCWA National Championships are March 10-12, 2011 in Macon, Ga., on the campus of Mercer University.
