ROME,GA. - The MMI wrestlers traveled to Rome, Georgia this past weekend to compete in The Roman Open on the campus of Shorter University. The tournament was held at The Forum and included over 180 wrestlers from both the NAIA and NCWA. Central Baptist, Baker University and Shorter represented the NAIA while MMI, University of Central Florida, Mercer University, Middle Tennessee State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, and the University of Georgia represented the NCWA.
Marion MIlitary Institute competed well after taking last weekend off. Josh McCoy placed 2nd in the 157-lb weight class to lead Marion and claim their best finish of the day. Trevor Bailey (157-lb) finished in 3rd place. 4th place finishes belonged to Austin Souders (133-lb), Xenepher Austin (141-lb), and Marvin Lawrence (165-lb). 5th place finishers were Michael Giorgio (149-lb) and Michael Mullen (285-lb). Shane Sullivan (174-lb) and Joel Wyman (285-lb) both finished in 6th place.
Marion will travel to Orlando, Florida this weekend for the University of Central Florida Knight's Brawl Duals and Open Tournament. The Duals will take place Friday evening at 6:00pm with the Open Tournament starting Saturday morning.
