Lancers GrapĀple in Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- California Baptist University sent a contingent of seven wrestlers to this weekend's extraordinarily prestigious 29th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
And though the Lancers didn't have any placers, they competed well. Caleb Gerl came the closest to advancing to the second day, coming within one match.
"Our guys gained valuable mat time experience at this tournament," said CBU Head Coach John Petty. "It will pay dividends as the season progresses."
Representatives from 36 teams competed at the invitational. Twenty-nine of those were NCAA Division I programs, 13 of which are nationally ranked, including six in the top 10 led by No. 1 Cornell.
The other ranked teams included No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 6 Boise State, No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 9 Central Michigan, No. 10 Illinois, No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Oregon State, No. 18 Ohio State, No. 19 Michigan State, No. 20 Arizona State, No. 22 Purdue and No. 25 Hofstra.
