USMAPS WRES­TLES IN ESU OPEN

East Stroudsburg PA -
The USMAPS wrestling team competed in the East Stroudsburg Open On November 21st. This tournament featured the most competition of any tournament the Knights will wrestle in this year. The competition ranged from novice all the way to division one All-Americans.
125: Zack Wells- Wells, continues to improve his wrestling skills every match he starts, but he was outgunned in this tournament and went 0-2.
149: Ryan Bilyeu and Paul Hancock- Bilyeu went up a weight class for this tournament and the weight increase became apparent from the beginning of his first match. He wrestled two matches and went 0-2.He wrestled Eddie Stephenson from ESU 10-5, and Christopher Smith from Bloomsburg9-7. Hancock stepped up to the plate and did the best of any wrestler for the Knights. In the first round , Hancock wrestled Christian Harr from Penn State a hard fought 5-4 match winning by riding time. Then in the second round he wrestled Brian Herald from Nassau CC and lost 8-4. The next round Hancock pinned Patrick Gibson from Muhelnburg. In the fourth round, he wrestled Vince Demitri who medical forfeited to Hancock. In the fifth round, Hancock wrestled Brian Smith of Clarion who he beat 5-2. Next he faced Dominic Derober from Maryland who he beat by a score of 6-0. Lastly, Hancock wrestled James Green from fury wrestling club and lost by a score of 10-6.
157: Alexandre Roy and Spencer Breeden- Both wrestlers wrestled hard, but both wrestlers went 0-2. Roy continues to impress everyone with his heart and desire to win. He will finish the season well. Breeden wrestles with great technique and looks to change his fortunes against Navy on the 5th of December.
165: John Mejia and Michel Russell- Mejia went down a weight class to try his luck, but found none as he went 0-2. Russell, a wrestler from Europe looked learn from this tournament, but went 0-2. Both wrestlers learned a lot about themselves in this tournament.
174: Wes Talley- After coming off his ankle injury, Talley stepped into the line-up at 174. He returned to action with a close loss of 5-2 from Geoffery Bauma of Gloucester. Next, Talley wrestled Gandolfi from Nassau CC by fall.
184: Shawn Sweany- Shawn wrestled a tough tournament in a tough weight class. He started off the tourney with wrestling Kevin Bailey of Leigh. He wrestled well most of the match, but ended up getting caught and pinned. Next Shawn wrestled Kadeem Samuels from Lehigh and lost by a score of 1-8.
197: Jeff Ducote- In his first match, Ducote walked into a headlock and got pinned. Looking to rebound off the initial loss, Ducote drew Sean Flannery of Gloucester. Having wrestled and won by decision on Wednesday against Flannery, Ducote won by decision again by a score of 10-3. In his last match, Ducote lost to James Mutch of Lehigh by a score of 5-2.
Overall, USMAPS wrestled tough but was just outclassed in most of the matches wrestled on Saturday. They look to rebound on December 5th against USNAPS. For more results go to the site attached.
