UCF Upsets National Champion Builders
ORLANDO, Fla. – University of Central Florida walked away from this weekends first major NCWA tournament of the young season with 78 points and a solid victory. The Apprentice School, the Defending NCWA National Champions, had to settle for a close second with 70 points in the 14 team field. The UCF Open Tournament included many solid teams including: Darton, Georgia Southern, Marion Military, Middle Tennessee and others. The Central Florida win shows that this year’s national race is wide open, despite the return of 5 Apprentice All-Americans. A young Marion Military Institute from Alabama took the 3rd spot with 63 points, followed by Darton College with 62 points and Kennesaw State to round out the top five. UCF 133 pounder, Steve DeAugustino was voted outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
