GVSU WINS DUALS CHAMPIONSHIP
Seven NCWA teams invited to compete in the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 12 and 13, 2008 for one of college wrestling’s premier events.
The tournament was held at the UNI Dome on the University of Northern Iowa’s campus, and involved over 80 teams, including those from the University of Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa State (coached by Cael Sanderson), the University of Minnesota, Nebraska, and this year’s NCAA Division I tournament champion, Iowa. The attendance on both days totaled over 15,000 wrestling fans whose enthusiasm matched that of any major college sporting event anywhere.
The NCWA was represented at this prestigious event by Bowling Green State University, Grand Valley State University, Kansas State University, Marion Military Institute, Newman University, the University of Central Florida and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In the NCWA Division, Grand Valley finished first by a 31-21 score in a hard fought match against Newman, Marion Military placed third with a 24-17 victory over Central Florida and Bowling Green brought home a fifth with a 36-16 win over UW-Milwaukee.
