With a strong field including Division III 10 time National Champion Augsburg at full strength in the 2007 Sunshine Open, Central Florida made a lasting impression. The UCF squad placed 6 wrestlers in the top 8 in this tough DII and DIII field. UCF's 197 pound Senior Danny Fernandez brought home the Gold by defeating #1 Seed Joe West of Delaware Valley 3-2 in the finals. 184 lb Zach Sanford took 3rd defeating the Heidelberg wrestler that knocked him out of the championship bracket by a decisive 17-8 decision.
