Creation of Winona State Wrestling Club Brings Back Memories, Provides Hope
Winona State had a great tradition and a rich history as an NAIA wrestling program before the program was dropped in 1982. Now, with the help of the Internet, hard work by Derek Olson and many dedicated supporters and wrestlers, the school in southeastern Minnesota has formed a club program that expects to compete in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association starting with the 2007-08 season. The creation of the club has brought back a lot of great memories for area wrestling supporters and kept alive the hope that maybe someday Winona State will reinstate its collegiate wrestling program.
