NCWA Wrestlers Named To VASID All-State Wrestling Team

LYNCHBURG, VA. – More honors were announced on Friday for the Apprentice School and Southern Virginia wrestling teams after this years 2009 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships. Two Apprentice School and one Southern Virginia wrestlers were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association All-State wrestling team. This is the only team produced by the state association that combines University Division (NCAA Division I) and all other College Division athletes.

Senior heavyweight Cecil Lee was named to the first team at heavyweight. The Portsmouth, Va. native had a record setting senior season as he finished 46-9 and won the NCWA National Championship. Lee’s 46 wins broke the school single-season victories record and his 124 career wins also gave him the career victories mark.

Peter Rose was named to the first team at 157lbs for the second year in a row. Peter took home his second Collegiate National title for the Knights in as many years finishing the season 29-1.

Sophomore Will Harcum earned second team honors at 165 pounds after he finished with a 34-16 record. The Williamsburg, Va. native finished fifth at 165 pounds in the NCWA Nationals to earn All-American honors and had a team high 18 wins by fall.

This marks the first year that the Builders have earned spots on the VaSID All-State team.
