Washington State University Captures the 2024 Collegiate Cup
In addition, WSU Wrestling secured their first National Champion, Freshman, 116 lb. All
American Genesis Vazquez. Also securing medals for WSU Women’s Wrestling was 2nd Place
Sophomore Petra Bernsten at 170 lb., 3rd Place Senior Taylor Thomas at 191 lb., 4th Place Junior
Maryum Ajaz at 116 lb., 4th Place Senior Mari Mendoza at 235 lb. and 5th Place Jordan Washak
at 235 lb.
After three very competitive days of wrestling where 16 WSU Men’s National qualifiers
battled, at the end of the Friday’s Blood Rounds, four Cougars emerged as NCWA All
Americans and went onto place as follows: 157 lb. Freshman Mitchell Helgert finished 3rd, 125
lb. Sophomore Kobe Bui finished 6th, 141 lb. Freshman Ryan Wilson finished 7th and 149 lb.
Sophomore Hudson Garcia finished 7th. 174 lb. Freshman Alex Ford and 184 lb. Junior David
Darroch both wrestled in Friday’s Blood Rounds falling just shy of all American status.
WSU Wrestling Academic All Americans were: Annika Arriola, Kobe Bui, James Cox, Jacob
Diehl, Alex Ford, Hudson Garcia, Cody Jenkins, Marie Marbet, Sarah Plummer, Luke Reed,
Taylor Thomas and Ryan Wilson.
