Washington State Wins Western Regional Duals
Washington State University Men’s Team earned first place at the Western Regional Duals in Surprise, Arizona. WSU had a total of 5 wins and 0 losses at the Duals in head-to-head wins of 60-6 over Colorado State, 46-12 over Texas A&M and 49-12 over host team Ottawa University to win their pool of 4 teams on day one of competition. Day two saw a tough battle between WSU and Wayne’s State College with the Cougers prevailing 39-21 securing them a spot in the final match against North West Conference rival Grays Harbor. WSU pulled an upset of the number one seeded Grays Harbor team with an overwhelming 39-18 win to end the 2-day event with WSU’s first ever Western Regional Championship.
The WSU Cougar wrestlers were led by numerous undefeated tournament performances by 125 pd Freshman Kobe Bui with 3 wins and 0 losses, 141 pd. Freshman Cade Carter with 4 wins and 0 losses, 157 pd. Freshman Hudson Garcia with 5 wins and 0 losses, 184 pd Sophomore David Darroch with 5 wins and 0 losses, and 235 pd Sophomore Keelen Mitcham continuing his undefeated season with 5 pins in this 2-day tournament.
