MIT Goes 2-0 at the Andrew Esquivel Duals

The MIT wrestling team hosted the first annual Andrew Esquivel Duals in memory of Andrew Esquivel at MIT on Saturday, February 11th. Attending the duals were the University of Massachusetts, the University of New Hampshire and Yale University. MIT won both matches on the day defeating Yale 31 to 24 and the University of Massachusetts 23-18. Senior, Jose Velarde was dominant on the day as he got 4 wins, 1 by fall, 1 by technical fall, 1 by a major decision and 1 forfeit. Sophomore, Frank Soucy won both his matches in impressive fashion, both by technical fall outscoring his opponents 32 to 1. Junior, Matthew Chun went 2 and 1 wining by a pin and a technical fall. Junior Raoul Khouri won both his matches including a pin. Joe Lowman, Ryan Shubert and Jonathon Brown all won 1 match on the day.
The team is now preparing for the Northeast Conference tournament which is the national qualifier. It will be held at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday February 25th at 10am. If you’re in the area, please come and cheer the team on.
