University of South Florida Team Press Releases2010 Florida State Duals | 01/22/2010 - The 1st Annual Florida State Duals, co-hosted by the University of South Florida and Florida A&M University, was a great day of wrestling as every team was slated for five duals. This was a great tournament despite having to relocate from the University of South Florida in Tampa to Florida A&M University in Tallahassee due to USF's late-November announcement that the school had accepted a big to host the Special Olympics. Special thanks to Florida A&M University for being the venue of the tournament. The University of Central Florida won the round robin-style duals by going 5-0 and the University of Florida won a nailbiter over Florida A&M University to clinch second place at 3-1. Florida A&M University went 2-2, Florida State University 1-2-1, Sante Fe Community College 1-3, and University of South Florida 0-4-1. Sante Fe Community College and University of Florida did not wrestle when it was scheduled for them to do so as well as Florida State University and Florida A&M University. There were a number of wrestlers who won every match they wrestled in: the University of Central Florida's Stephen DeAugostino (141), TJ Gillin (157), Christopher Hauser (184), the University of Florida's Mark Koski (235/285), and Florida A&M University's Roland Pitts (197) all went 3-0. The University of Central Florida's Brian Asker (133), Santa Fe Community College's James Bradley (285), and Florida State University's Colby Borchetta (149) also went 2-0. Wrestling started at 11:45 A.M. and concluded at 6:40 P.M. A very big thanks to Don Schroeder and Mike Decker, the referees for the tournament, and all the coaches for their advice and assistance into making this tournament flow very nicely. There were no incidents of unsportsmanship and for that we thank the coaches and team captains again. All in all, the tournament was a great success. We look forward to an even stronger event next season with every team in Florida in attendence. |
