Texas A&M University Team Press Releases

Texas A&M hosts Aggieland Open

12/07/2010 -
Howdy!

Last weekend, we had our first home tournament in years. A total of 36 wrestlers competed from various schools across Texas, including UT-Arlington, UT-Austin, Texas State, Sam Houston State, and Central Baptist (division NAIA). Wrestling started around 9 a.m, and ended around 12:30 p.m.

Team points were not recorded since this was an open tournament at the Student Recreational Center, but A&M wrestlers were very successful overall. Six Aggie Wrestlers placed, with Ryan Garner (149 lbs.) and Brian Milford (235 lbs.) taking the gold in in their respective weight classes.

Next up for the Aggies is the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prarie, TX, on January 15, 2011. Texas A&M will be wrestling against UT-Arlington, top 5-ranked Marion Military Institute, and Nebraska-Kearney, a NCAA-D2 school. Needless to say, the Aggies will be preparing extremely hard in these upcoming weeks in order to prepare for this challenge. The next home event will be February 19, 2011, as the Aggies host the 2011 Texas State Collegiate Wrestling Championships at the Student Rec Center. More details will come for that event soon.

The Texas A&M Wrestling Team wishes to thank all of the volunteers who devoted their time and effort to making this a successful tournament. Their efforts have helped the organization tremendously!

Have a good break, and as always, Gig 'Em Aggies!
