Texas A&M University Team Press ReleasesPreseason: Texas A&M Wrestling Shows Improvement | 11/11/2005 - November 11th, 2005 By: Shaun Shaikh, “The Observer” InsideTexasWrestling.com
In the spring of 2005, the Texas A&M Wrestling Club failed to bring a wrestling team to the NCWA Conference Championships. The club has gone under construction with a new team captain and the outlook for 2005-2006 is good.
The new captain Joey Savage is a sophomore genetics major from Granger, TX. His enthusiasm got A&M to have a real schedule with traveling, a nearly full roster, and regular practices which are productive. This is a real turnaround for Texas A&M, who usually hardly ever practices, and when they do has unproductive ones. Going into their first meet, the SWC Kickoff, Texas A&M will only be missing one weight class, and will be represented by many capable wrestlers. The club recently had a week of wrestle offs to determine varsity positions. The matches highlighted the talent available at Texas A&M, as all of the matches were decided by minor decisions. This is usually the result of tough team with talented wrestlers.
Tentative Varsity Roster 125: Matthew McCabe (Dallas, TX – Jesuit College Prep) 133: Open 141: David Liliedahl (Juneau, AK – Douglass H.S.) 149: Daniel Taylor (Houston, TX – Lamar H.S.) 157: Vincent Cline (Cedar Park, TX – Cedar Park H.S.) 165: Shaun Shaikh (Houston, TX – Westside H.S.) 174: Tyson Scott (Longview, TX – Longview H.S.) 184: David Brucker (Katy, TX – Cinco Ranch H.S.) 197: Daniel Devine (San Antonio, TX – Churchill H.S.) 235: Nick Sweet (Havelock, NC – Havelock H.S.) 285: Joey Savage (Granger, TX – Granger H.S.)
