Louisiana State University Team Press ReleasesSW Conference National's Results | 03/25/2007 - The Southwest Conference of the National Collegiate Wrestling Association had an impressive performance at the 2007 NCWA National Championships, held on March 8-10, at the Garland Special Events Center in Dallas.
On the individual side, the SWC proudly placed 7 All-Americans, including one National Champion, Steve Kern, in the 184 pound weight class.
Starting at 125lbs, Travis Olinde from Louisiana State University placed 7th. In the 133 pound weight class Isaac Wall from Newman University placed 3rd and Gabriel Reyes from the University of Texas at Arlington achieved a 7th place finish. In the 141 pound weight class, the second All-American from Newman University, Clay Goodloe, placed 8th, and in the 157 pound weight class, the second All-American from Louisiana State University, Josh Kotter, placed 5th.
In the 184 pound weight class, Steve Kern from Kansas State University, won a 2-0 match in the finals to be named the National Champion at 184lbs making him a 4 time NCWA All-American. The other 184lbs finalist was Steve Gerrard from Colorado State University, giving him a 2nd place finish.
Along with the individual place winners, the SWC finished with 4 teams in the top 25. Colorado State University finished in 10th place, followed by Kansas State University at 13th, Newman University at 17th, and Louisiana State University finishing in 21st.
The achievements of the SWC did not stop on the mat. At the 2007 NCWA Awards Banquet, Beau Tillman, the head coach of the Kansas State University Wrestling Team, was named the 2006-2007 NCWA Coach of the Year.
All 14 of the teams in the Southwest Conference look forward to the 2007-2008 season, and look forward to an even better performance come the 2008 Nationals. |
