Marion Wrestlers Complete Sweep at Prattville High School Collegiate Tri-Match

PRATTVILLE, AL - Prattville High School (Prattville, Alabama) hosted a tri-match between host school Marion Military Institute, Darton College, and Auburn University last Friday night. Darton and Auburn wrestled first with Darton taking a 37 to 6 victory. MMI faced Darton College in the next event and after a slow start in the 125-lb. weight class, the tigers were able to take control of the match and claim a 37 to 10 victory. Individual winners for Marion were: DeAnthony Smith (133-lb), Xenepher Austin (141-lb.), Michael Giorgio (149-lb.), Josh McCoy (157-lb.), Marvin Lawrence, Jr. (165-lb.), Khalid McGee (184-lb.), and Michael Mullen (285-lb.).

The last event of the night pitted the home Tigers against the Auburn University Tigers' Club Wrestling Team, coached by MMI alum Terry Long. Marion completed a sweep of each weight class and took the 59 to 0 victory. Individual winners for Marion were: Jordan Goodwin (125-lb.), DeAnthony Smith (133-lb.), Xenepher Austin (141-lb.), Michael Giorgio (149-lb.), Josh McCoy (157-lb.), Marvin Lawrence, Jr. (165-lb.), Kevin Koch (174-lb.), Khalid McGee (184-lb), Logan Sherrill (197-lb.), Mark Howard (235-lb.), and Joel Wyman (285-lb.). The Marion squad will travel to Dalton, Georgia this weekend to compete in the NCWA National Duals. The tournament will be held at the North Georgia Convention Center with competition starting Friday afternoon at 4:00pm. Tournament information can be downloaded at www.ncwa.net
