HVCC on Track for Success in 2009-2010

10/22/2009 -

Hudson Valley Community College is looking at another successful year in the NCWA. After qualifying four for nationals in 2009, two of which attained all-American status, HVCC is in position to better it's standing in 2010.
While all-American Brian Borst(Duanesburg) has gone on to wrestle in Montana, all-American Mark Burchhardt(Scotia-Glenville) is returning to lead an outstanding line-up of freshmen and transfer students. Looming large in the room is Binghampton transfer Ed Backus(Mohawk HS). Look for Ed to be a contender for the NEC 235lb. title as well as a shoe in for all-American status. Another key pick-up is Adirondack CC transfer Kirk Harrington(Hudson Falls). Kirk is a two time NYS high school State place finisher and will, no doubt, be qualifying for nationals at 133.
Top freshmen recruits include Joe Smaldone(Averil Park) at 125, Adam Hulett(Columbia HS) at 141, Josh Simmons(Colonie) at 149, Stephon Flood(Albany) at 157, Peyton Plaise(Albany) at 165, Brendan Ruddy(Guilderland) at 184 and Joe Retos(Lansingburgh) at 197.
