Mott Moves Wrestling to Athletic Department

03/07/2009 -

Mott Community College is pleased to announce that several administrative changes are being made to further promote the successful "Bears Wrestling" program. MCC Vice-President, Scott Jenkins, and Athletic Director, Tom Healey, have worked to put the wrestling program under the direction of the athletic department. The wrestling team, along with other future programs, will be catagorized as extra-curricular athletics. This move allows for the hiring of a full-time coach, streamlines administrative procedures and ensures the future continuity of the program. Paul Holdren, who started and developed this successful program, will assist in an advisory capacity.

During Holdren's six year tenure, the team has produced a national champion, ten all-americans, finished NCC Regional Runner-up twice, coached a total of 39 National Qualifiers, designed a grant program entitled "Flint Youth Wrestling," and compiled a dual meet record of 25-8. Six Mott wrestlers have moved on to wrestle at four year institutions. Five Mott wrestlers are presently coaching in local school districts.

Most importantly for Holdren has been his opportunity to inspire the Mott student/athletes to develop academically as students and spiritually as men of God.
