Wis/Minn Championships a Success
Even with the NCWA National Duals going on there was another smaller, but equally successful, tournament being held to determine some of the best wrestlers in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Teams from Wisconsin, which included UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Baraboo, and Northland Baptist Bible College met in Winona Minnesota to do battle. In the end champions were determined in 8 weight classes. The host team Winona State came away with the most champions with 5. Winners for the WSU Warriors were Aaron Murray 149, Chad Stenson 157, Ben Hammel 174, Derek Olson 197, and Kevin Raasch 285. Milwaukee had one champ in Shawn Pitts at 133. Northland had one champ with Nathan McDowell winning the very tough 141 bracket. An equally tough bracket was won by Madison wrestler Alex Schindler at 165.
Many of these teams will do battle one more time when they meet at NBBC for a quadrangular on Thursday February 12.
Winona State and Milwaukee will also travel to Eau Claire February 7th for the Bluegold Invitational. Full results can be found here.
