The Mavericks Tangle with the Oklahoma Sooners
Norman, Oklahoma — The University of Texas/Arlington traveled to Norman to wrestle the Oklahoma Sooners second team, but due to OU injuries and the NCAA rules prohibiting those who are red shirting from wrestling in the dual, the competition consisted of just 5 matches. The Mavs dual preceded Oklahoma’s dual with Oklahoma City University. The Sooner victory against OCU was Coach Jack Spates, 200th career dual victory.
The Mavs wrestled tough, but their sole victory came at the 174 weight class with Caleb Alexander winning by decision over Steve NIjoka, 9-6. “I’m disappointed with my overall performance, I didn’t finish my shots as cleanly as I’d like, but it felt good to have my hand raised though” said Alexander. “I’ll definitely be putting in extra work to clean up my technique.”
This is the second year the Mavs traveled to Norman to wrestle the Sooners. “Without a doubt we wrestled much better this year than last,” said Coach McCall. “I felt confident we would have better showing this year and across the board and we did that. I’m really proud of these guys and especially Caleb and his victory.”
Next up for the Mavericks is the Oklahoma Open, Go Mavs!
