UMBC wins home dual meet tournament

UMBC went 4-0 Saturday to win the championship at the UMBC duals. The Retrievers defeated nationally-ranked NJCAA Gloucester CC (26-24), the Apprentice School (26-22), Penn State-Mont Alto (52-3) and RPI (54-6).

For UMBC, Brian Samuels (141), Daniel Carr (149), Martin Mitchell (157), Mike Munno (174), Alec Pence (184) and Chris Urps (197) went undefeated at the duals.

UMBC finished the first semester with a record of 11-1 in dual meets.

Next up for the Retrievers is the Wilkes Open during Christmas break. After that, the team will travel to Rhode Island to participate in a quad-meet hosted by Navy Prep.

Over the break, UMBC will also be hosting the Mount Mat Madness tournament, which is widely regarded as the toughest high school wrestling tournament in the state.
