UMBC's Eldar Muradov wins title at York College Invitational
University of Maryland Baltimore County's Eldar Muradov captured the 197-pound title this weekend at the York College Invitational, one of the toughest NCAA DIII tournaments on the East Coast.
An NCWA All-American last season, Muradov went 4-0, including three pins, to win the title. He was joined in the finals by teammate Martin Mitchell (157), who finished in second place after a big win over NCAA DI Millersville's starter in the semifinals.
This was UMBC's best showing ever at this event. The Retrievers finished ahead of nationally-ranked NCAA DIII Johnson & Wales, as well as Millersville, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, the Apprentice School and the Merchant Marine Academy.
Apprentice School heavyweight Ian Jones also represented the NCWA well, finishing in third place.
