MIT qualifies 5 wrestlers for NCWA National Tournament
The MIT wrestling team competed at the Northeast Conference Qualifier held at the University of New Hampshire this past weekend. The team qualified 5 wrestlers for the NCWA National Championships which take place in Daytona Beach, Florida, March 8th to the 10th. MIT placed 4 wrestlers in the finals and had 2 champions. Sophomore, Sam Shames ran his record to 29 and 1 on the season with 2 pins winning the 125 pound weight class. Junior, Ryan Madson, ran his record to 33 and 2 with 4 pins on the day winning the 157 pound weight class. Ryan was voted the upper weight most outstanding wrestler. Junior, Bee Vang finished 2nd at the 133 pounds. Sophomore, Jake Laux, won 2 matches without giving up a single point. He defaulted in the finals at the 197 pound weight class due to a minor injury. Sophomore, Jaes Jones finished 3rd at 149 pounds. Jaes had 3 pins on the day. The team finished in 3rd place behind runner up Navy Prep and 2012 NEC champions, University of New Hampshire.
The team dedicated their efforts to the recent loss of their teammate and close friend, Brian Anderson who past away last week. The conference observed a moment of silence in Brian's honor.
