Huskies Take 1st Annual Connecticut Classic
Storrs, CT-Two teams with the same popular team nickname faced off against each other in the final match of the day in the first wrestling match on the Storrs, CT campus in nearly four decades which featured two NCWA Northeast Conf. teams from Massachusetts and two teams from Connecticut. In the battle of the unbeatens, the “Huskies” of Northeastern defeated the home team UConn “Huskies” by a score of 20-18 at the Willis N. Hawley Armory in front of a “standing room only” crowd. It was the final regular season event for both “Husky” squads as well as UMass-Amherst and Yale Univ. A tech fall by Jason Dack at 165 lbs., for his second win of the day, led the way for NU. Other double winners for NU were Brian Calandra at 141 lbs. & Joe DeSalvo at 235 lbs. Leading the way for UConn were two win performances by Micah Flashman at 157 lbs. and Brian Richman at 197 lbs. The only triple winner of the day was Corey Graham of UMass at 184 lbs. who had a fall and two tech falls for the day. Dave Vyshedsky at 149 lbs. scored a pin and a decision as well for the Minutemen. Yale University’s Connor Youngblood led his team with two victories for the day. All four teams will be competing this coming weekend in the NCWA Northeast Conference Championships at the Univ. of New Hampshire.
